Slave Dwelling Project Comes to Old Alabama Town

September 20, 2019 @ 8:00 am - September 21, 2019 @ 4:00 pm

Explore the narrative of enslaved people who once lived and worked at the Ordeman-Mitchell-Shaw Complex in Old Alabama Town during this special two-day event. The two-story slave dwelling is one of only a few remaining on its original site. Joseph McGill, founder of the Slave Dwelling Project, combines slave dwelling preservation and education. Jerome Bias, furniture maker and food historian, presents his perspective through cooking demonstrations. Landmarks Foundation of Montgomery is conducting on-going interpretative study of the lives of those connected to the Ordeman-Mitchell-Shaw complex and offers that history in scheduled tours of the property. Join us as we discover the scope and understanding of slavery in our community.
