For much of the fall, football reigns supreme as the sport of the South. From the Alabama State Hornets to the Tuskegee Golden Tigers, there are plenty of games just a drive away for you and your family to attend this football season.
Fantastic Fall Festivals
MMFA’s Fall Festival is a free event that celebrates Montgomery’s vibrant creative culture, featuring both local and regional artists from all backgrounds. This free public event features an art market with more than 30 vendors, live music, art demos, food trucks, and tastings with local brewers. The Fall Festival 2024 theme will be How Art Connects Us, in connection to the Alabama A to Z exhibition of work by talented artists from all around the state. The Fall Festival will occur on September 21st- 22nd from 10 am – 5 pm at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
Spinners Pumpkin Patch Crafts & Vendor Show is held each October at Spinners Park in Prattville, this fun-filled weekend event features tons of great local artists and other vendors, activities for kids, live music, and much more.
See Fall Foliage
Fall in the South is gorgeous thanks to the changing seasons. The state has several parks that are perfect for catching a glimpse of the stunning fall foliage. Consider visiting Cheaha State Park, Oak Mountain State Park, Little River Canyon National Preserve, DeSoto State Park, Rickwood Caverns State Park, or Monte Sano State Park for gorgeous views this fall season!
Local Farmers Markets
Head to the farmer’s market and pick up some locally grown produce for the whole family to enjoy! In the cooler fall months, delicious produce including apples, pears, squash, and pumpkin is in season and ready for you to enjoy.

Get Outside and Go on a Hike
For a fun day adventure or some fall activities that the whole family can enjoy, the Gold Star Park is a great option, offering boardwalk and paved paths for you to take in the natural splendor of Alabama in one convenient location. Many people visit the park for bird watching and the light hiking experience they crave, without having to travel too far outside of Montgomery.
A few options right in Montgomery are the AUM Trailhead and Lagoon Park Trail, both of which offer great sights, wildlife, and outdoor adventures that the whole family can enjoy.
Those with older children may choose one of several longer hikes in the surrounding Montgomery area. Check out the Swayback Bridge Trail, a scenic 4.6-mile loop trail in Wetumpka that is a great place for walking, hiking, biking, and bringing your dogs. If you’re looking for more height in your next hike, the Deadening Alpine Trail is a great option for you. It’s a 3.5-mile loop trail that brings you to some breathtaking views overlooking a lake and other scenic areas.
