It can be hard to find the right church when you’re new to a community. This is especially true for military families, who see many changes in their church life due to relocations. The Doughty family shares what makes their church the right fit.
Our family moved to Alabama in 2019 to join the Alabama Air National Guard and in return gained much more than we ever expected. When we married 10+ years ago, we could never have imagined that God would bless us with four amazing children and guide us to Pike Road, Alabama—but that is exactly what happened and we feel extremely blessed to be here and be part of the Saint James Church community. We have made five moves during that time and this is by far the most welcoming and enjoyable community we have been a part of.
Immediately after moving here, we were introduced to Saint James by one of our good friends and from the beginning we knew this was the place for us. We have been embraced by St. James Church in many ways—from pre-school and athletic programs for our kids to the SNAG program and weekly small-group meetings, we have always been welcomed with open arms. We have built amazing friendships with other families through our life group and are extremely grateful for the children’s and youth ministries that have loved and cared for our children as well as showing them how to bring Christ into their lives.
We are truly grateful to be part of the Saint James community and look forward to more opportunities to get involved and make new friends.
We are grateful for St. James and grateful for the (almost) 6 years we have been poured into and given opportunities to pour into others.
