Did you know there are a ton of things you can your family can do for fun in the River Region without spending a dime? Here’s part two of your guide to a few free things you can do in our area.
1. Blount Cultural Park.
If you’re in the mood to fly a kite, go for a jog, or have a picnic, you can do it all at Blount Cultural Park. This is one of Montgomery’s biggest parks— it covers 293 acres. There’s no shortage of green space, picnic tables, and serene ponds at Blount Cultural Park. It also features an off-leash dog park and miles of walking trails.
2. Montgomery Area Visitor’s Center.
This is a go-to stop if you’re interested in learning about what Montgomery and the River Region as a whole have to offer. Stop by the Montgomery Area Visitor’s Center for information and pamphlets about our area’s history, fun things to do, and so much more. There’s even a gift shop if you’re in the mood to spend a little money on a few Southern souvenirs.
3. The MOOseum.
The MOOseum is one of Montgomery’s most unique museums, and admission is completely free! This is the place to go if you’re interested in learning more about Alabama’s beef cattle industry. Plus, it features tons of interactive activities to keep the kids engaged.
4. Eastbrook Flea Market and Antique Mall.
While you can definitely spend some serious cash on all the cool finds at Eastbrook, you can also just go walk around and check out the unique antiques free of charge if you’re looking for something to do to pass the time. This facility covers 300,000 square-feet and features over 600 vendors, so you won’t have to worry about running out of things to see. You could truly spend an entire day here reminiscing on the past and talking with the friendly vendors.
5. Prattville Pickers.
Just like with Eastbrook, you could drop hundreds on cool and unique finds at Prattville Pickers. It’s also just a fun place to go walk around if you’re looking for something to do one afternoon. This facility covers 100,000 square-feet and features over 300 vendors who sell everything from collectible antiques to new furniture pieces.
P.S. You can even bring your four-legged friend with you as long as they’re on a leash!
6. Prattauga Art Guild Gallery.
The Prattauga Art Guild Gallery features works of art from local, regional, and national artists. Stop by to check out the permanent collection as well as a variety of traveling collections year-round. The Guild also hosts art classes and workshops throughout the year, so make sure to keep an eye on their calendar.
7. Gold Star Park.
Located on the Coosa River in Wetumpka, Gold Star Park features walking trails, picnic tables, and a playground for the kids to enjoy. This is a great place to visit if you’re looking to have fun with the family without spending any money.
