It’s getting chilly out there! Tired of being cooped up in the house already? Here’s your guide to a few winter-friendly activities you can do with your family in the River Region.

1. Ice skate indoors at Eastdale Mall.

You’ll still want to bundle up for this activity, but at least you won’t be outside in the cold! Eastdale Mall has an awesome ice skating rink where you and your family can skate to your hearts’ content in the comfort of the great indoors. This is also a great place to host your (or your kids’) next birthday party.

2. Get moving at Rockin’ Jump or Launch.

There’s nothing like jumping on a trampoline to get your blood pumping and warm you up! Rockin’ Jump and Launch both feature tons of trampolines and games for the whole family to enjoy.

3. Visit the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.

MMFA is home to hundreds of works of amazing art in both permanent and traveling collections. That means there’s something for everyone to look at and enjoy! The best part? It’s free! Donations are always welcome and encouraged, though.

4. Check out the Mann Wildlife Learning Museum.

Even if it’s too cold outside to go walk around the Montgomery Zoo, you can still visit the indoor Mann Museum that’s located within the zoo. This museum features over 270 lifelike displays of North American animals, artifacts, and more. Plus, they offer sensory bags filled with headphones, fidgets, and more, so it’s a great place to visit if anyone in your family has a sensory processing disorder.

5. Catch a show at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.

ASF always has a great lineup of festive shows for the winter season. Check out their schedule and book tickets to take your family to see one! This is the perfect winter activity since you can stay warm indoors and be whisked away to another reality for just a little bit.

6. Visit the MOOseum.

The MOOseum is an excellent place to take your family for a little pick-me-up when it’s too cold outside to do much of anything. This museum is free to visit, and it will teach you and your family all about the history of Alabama’s beef cattle industry, the importance of food safety and nutrition, and more. There are a few interactive exhibits here that the kids are sure to love.

7. Check out the W.A. Gayle Planetarium.

The W.A. Gayle Planetarium is truly the ultimate place to visit with your family if you want to escape to someplace else for a little while and forget about how cold it is outside. They’re currently closed until January 3, but make sure you plan to catch one of their “out of this world” shows in the near future.
