World Giraffe Day

The Montgomery Zoo and Mann Wildlife Learning Museum will celebrate the longest-necked animal on the longest day of the year on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 10am – 3pm with activities, keeper talks and more to raise awareness about the dwindling population of giraffe in the wild and to raise funds for the Giraffe Conservation Fund’s Twiga (Swahili for giraffe) Tracker Project.
The Zoo’s Giraffe Encounter will open an hour early at 9:00 am and close at its regular time of 4:30 pm. On this special day admission to the Giraffe Encounter will be $4 per person with one dollar from each encounter going directly to the Twiga Tracker Project. All guests must purchase a ticket to go onto the encounter deck.
Here is a list of all the special World Giraffe Day activities:
- Giraffe Encounter 9:00 am-4:30 pm, $4 per person ages 3 and older
- “Giraffe Marketplace” featuring totes, paintings, magnets, etc,
- Artifact table
- Craft area
- Zookeeper talks, 10am and 1:30pm
- Costume contest @ 11am at Overlook Stage\
- Education program @ 11:30am at Overlook Stage
- Photo booth, $5 per photo
- Face painting, open 11am – 3pm, $5 per person
Guests will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite Montgomery Zoo giraffe. Our giraffes, Ashley, Jenna, Connye (pronounced Connie), and Alvin will have a polling pot where guests can donate their extra change or dollars. The giraffe with the largest amount of donations will be named Montgomery’s 2019 Giraffe of the Year. Jenna proudly won the title in 2018.
