Juneteenth on the Riverfront

June 19, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm

“As stars rise over the Riverwalk Amphitheater this Juneteenth we’ll celebrate the rich artistic cultures of the African Diaspora through theatre, dance, and music! Kick-off the summer as you head downtown with family and friends, baskets and blankets, cheer and chairs to join this celebration of liberty, culture, creativity, and community. The program begins with the theatrical performance of “Free to Build” a tribute to the Freedom of Expression through spoken word and poetry, directed by Ron McCall. Next Lindsay Benton presents the choreography of “AfeeKan AmerryKan 619” by the Notnebia Dance Theatre. To round out the evening MGM Soul Collective, under the director of Amon Robinson, will play the hits from Coltrane to Beyonce and everything in between.
For the grand finale, the City of Montgomery will “light the night” with a special fireworks presentation all hosted by our guest MC the one and only Tonya Terry.”
