Exploring Wild Alabama

August 10, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Exploring Wild Alabama is a detailed guide to the most beautiful natural destinations in the state. From the rocky outcrops of the Appalachian plateaus to the sugar-white beaches of the Gulf Coast, Alabama offers a wealth of remarkable sites to explore. The book is fully illustrated and includes 28 detailed maps (and GPS coordinates). During this presentation, co-authors Larry Davenport and Ken Wills will highlight unique features of Alabama’s landscape and discuss their experiences documenting the state’s extraordinary outdoor attractions.

Dr. Larry Davenport is the Paul N. Propst Professor of Natural Sciences at Samford University and is an expert on Alabama’s plant life. In 2007, Dr. Davenport was named “Alabama Professor of the Year” by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Ken Wills is president of the Friends of Moss Rock Preserve and currently works for the Jefferson County Health Department. He has traveled the entire state as a natural resource planner and biologist for the Alabama Environmental Council.

Exploring Wild Alabama: A Guide to the State’s Publicly Accessible Natural Areas (2016) is published by the University of Alabama Press. Copies will be available for purchase at the event. For more information about the book talk, call (334) 353-4689.
