Performances will be Friday\, November 30th at 7:00pm\, Saturday\, December 1st at 7:00pm\, and Sunday\, December 2nd at 2:00pm. A special Linking Education and Arts Performance (LEAP)  at 10:00am on Friday\, November 30th gives local schools and homeschool groups the opportunity to bring students on an educational field trip to learn about the art of classical ballet. \nThis beautiful ballet is choreographed by Stevan Grebel to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. \n“The Great Montgomery Nutcracker” will thrill the audience with the prodigious dancing of the Youth Ballet Company and students from the school.  With spectacular backdrops\, scenery and a growing Christmas tree\, this ballet is truly magical! \nThe River Region Ballet’s “The Great Montgomery Nutcracker” includes many historical elements from Old Montgomery during the Mid-Victorian Era.  The opening scene of Act I\, “The Party Scene”\, takes place in the home of Mayor William Adams Gunter during the time that he was Mayor of Montgomery – for 25 years – the longest in Montgomery’s history! \nMayor Gunter and his wife\, Julia Scott Gunter\, had one son and six lovely daughters.  The youngest daughter\, Elizabeth\, or “Beppy” as everyone called her\, will embody the familiar role of “Clara” in the new River Region Ballet’s production. \nThe audience will be swept away with “Beppy” on her magical journey to the “Kingdom of Snow” and “Land of the Sweets”.  She and the audience will be royally entertained by dancing snowflakes in a fir forest winter wonderland.  In Act II\, Beppy and “The Nutcracker Prince” are fêted by “The Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Her Cavalier” and her entourage\, who dance the famous “Nutcracker” divertissements\, including “Flowers”\, “Spanish”\, “Chinese”\, “Arabian”\, “Candy Canes”\, “Mirlitons”\, and “Mother Ginger” and her adorable “Polichinelles”. \nTo purchase tickets\, click here.
