Thursday, July 11: First Man (2018) An epic biographical drama about the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon, fifty years ago on July 20, 1969. Based on the biography of Armstrong written by Auburn University’s James R. Hansen. Starring Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy. Drama. Rated PG-13.
Thursday, July18: The Long Walk Home(1990) Two women, black and white, in 1955 Montgomery, Alabama, must decide what they are going to do in response to the famous bus boycott led by Martin Luther King Jr. Starring Sissy Spacek and Whoopi Goldberg. Drama. Rated PG.Thursday, July 25: The Fighting Kentuckian (1947) In 1818 Alabama, French settlers are pitted against greedy land-grabber Blake Randolph, but Kentucky militiaman John Breen comes to the settlers’ aid. Starring John Wayne. Adventure. Not rated.
Thursday, August 2: Smokey and the Bandit (1977) The film follows bootleggers Bo “Bandit” Darville and Cledus “Snowman” Snow as they attempt to illegally transport 400 cases of Coors from Texarkana to Atlanta. During their run through the southern states, including Alabama, they attract the attention of Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Smokey). Starring Burt Reynolds and Sally Field. Action, Comedy. Rated PG.
