2nd Annual Flight of Arts: Creative & Cultural Arts Celebration

21 Dreams Arts & Culture is celebrating Montgomery’s emerging arts community this October in its second annual Flight of Arts. 2016 marked the official recognition of National Arts and Humanities Month; an initiative focused on engaging creatives and arts advocates in various cities across the country fostering partnerships among communities. In conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month (NAHM), the event will highlight the local creative arts community, allowing multiple opportunities for the public to experience the arts over the course of a weekend.
The four-day event will feature several workshops and exhibitions for visual, performing, literary, culinary and cultural arts. All events and activities will be hosted at different venues in and around downtown Montgomery to raise public awareness and community engagement.
Schedule of Events:
Thurs. (19th): Visual Arts | Artwalk in the Alley 6:00 pm – Emerging visual artists display their creative work along the pathways of the Alley Station. Curated by the 2017 IgniteMGM arts grant winner, Emily Hayes.
Fri. (20th): Music Arts | Art in Concert: Tank & the Bangas (MMFA) 7:00 – 11:00 pm – Tank and the Bangas is a group from New Orleans who recently won the NPR Tiny Desk Concert Contest. Band saxophonist/flutist Albert Allenback is a Montgomery native and graduate of Booker T. Washington Magnet High School.
Sat. (21st): Literary & Performing Arts | The Art of Storytelling – 3:00pm – 7:00pm – Nat King Cole Mural, 435 Maxwell Blvd. – Poetry, storytelling, music and theatrical performances. Music, art, food & creative vendors. Good vibes for all ages.
Sat. (21st): Digital Arts | Film & Music Convo + Competition – 11:30am – 2:00pm – The Sanctuary, 432 Goldthwaite St. – Meet, mix & mingle with new connections. Panelists share experiences, tips, initiatives and information reflecting the current state and future of digital arts in our State. Also featuring the Flight of Arts “Young Filmmaker Challenge” for high school students in the River Region.
Sun. (22nd): Culinary Arts | Chef Demo + Dialogue – 1:00pm – 3:00pm – On A Roll Cafe, 109 S Court St. – Chef demonstration and dialogue regarding recipes, food prep, best choices, tips and more. Limited space: Food & drink samples provided.
Sun. (22nd): Digital Arts | Indie Film Festival – 5:00pm – 7:00pm – Pure Artistry Literary Cafe’, 142 W Jeff Davis Ave. – A display of independent films from state and local writers & directors. Connect with filmmakers and enjoy the Sunday weekend wind down.
