Making Alabama: A Bicentennial Traveling Exhibit

March 1, 2018 - March 31, 2018

Making Alabama. A Bicentennial Traveling Exhibit is a statewide celebration of 200 years of statehood presented by Alabama Humanities Foundation in partnership with Alabama Department of Archives and History and Alabama Bicentennial Commission.

The exhibit will crisscross the state March 2018 through November 2019, touring all 67 of Alabama’s counties with up to three-week engagements in each host community.

The exhibit features:

-Eight periods of history that defined Alabama as a state – decisions and turning points that shaped what the state would become and what it will be – all in an impressive display to retrace our state’s footsteps to present day and beyond.
-Stories behind the stories, delving deeper into Alabama history, its people, places and cultures that made a difference in Making Alabama.
-Interactive displays to engage audiences across the state.
-Local exhibits created by host communities to showcase their own role in the story of Making Alabama.
-Resources for collateral programming, including Bicentennial Scholars for talks and presentations and a library of Alabama-made documentaries for special showings.
-Exhibit lesson plans online for teachers and students to better understand the impact of Alabama’s history on its past and its future.
-Oral histories telling the story of Making Alabama in Alabamians’ own voices.

The Traveling Exhibit begins at the state capitol in the Old Supreme Court Library.

The capitol is open Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm and Saturday 9:00am – 3:00pm

This event is free to the public.
