Local Eats

The South is famous for its hospitality, its love of football, and its good eats. The River Region is home to a wide variety of restaurants—both new and old. Whether you’re in the mood for a juicy burger, a light salad, or a delectable dessert, you’re sure to find something that will satisfy your cravings.

Classic Southern Fare

Chicken salad is a Southern cuisine must-have—Chicken Salad Chick offers twelve different varieties of the traditional Southern entrée after which it is named. Try the “Classic Carol”, or maybe the “Jalapeno Holly” if you’re feeling adventurous! Newcomers to the South may not be familiar with the standard “meat and three” meal. It’s exactly what it sounds like—a plate featuring a protein, such as chicken or a pork chop, along with three sides of your choice, usually ranging from collard greens and field peas to mashed potatoes and mac n’ cheese. Check out Martha’s Place on Atlanta Highway for a taste of a few Southern staples. Martin’s in Old Cloverdale is famous for having some of the best fried chicken in the South!

Fine Dining

Looking for the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary, go on a date night, or just enjoy the finer things? There is no shortage of fine dining in the River Region. Stop by Central downtown to experience a new twist on Southern classics, all within are purposed 1890’s warehouse space. If you’re in the mood for a fancy Sunday brunch, try the mimosas and Eggs Benedict at Vintage Year in Old Cloverdale.

Score One for the Home Team

Fans of wings, good times, and sports on the big screen will want to check out Baumhower’s Victory Grille — it’s the perfect place to grab a bite and catch the game. Want to try something a little more Southern? Dreamland BBQ is home to some of the South’s best hickory grilled barbecue, as well as plenty of TVs for watching sports. In the mood for dessert?
